Recovery Guide

How To Transfer Recovered Data To A New Phone

Follow these step-by-step instructions to restore your recovered data onto your new device.

Phone won't turn on at all? That's recovery, not transfer - the data has to come off the dead phone first. Start with iPhone data recovery or cell phone data recovery.

iPhone (Windows)

Restore your iTunes backup on a PC

  1. Copy the iTunes Backup to Your PC

Insert the USB stick we sent you into your computer. Transfer the "iTunes Backup" folder to the iTunes backup location on your PC.

    Default iTunes Backup Location

    C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

    How to Find This Folder

    • Open the search bar on your PC and type %appdata%
    • Click the folder that appears - this opens the AppData › Roaming directory
    • Navigate: Apple Computer → MobileSync → Backup
    • Drag and drop your iTunes backup folder into the Backup folder

Microsoft Store version of iTunes? The backup folder is at: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Apple\MobileSync\Backup

Backup folder missing? Connect any iPhone to your computer and start a backup in iTunes (you don't need to finish it). This creates the Backup folder automatically.

  2. Open iTunes & Select Your Device

    • Launch iTunes on your PC.
    • Click the small phone icon at the top left of the iTunes window.
  3. Restore the Backup

    • Click Restore Backup and select the backup you added to the iTunes backup folder
    • If you have multiple backups, identify the correct one by checking the date it was created
    • Click Restore and wait for the process to complete
iPhone (Mac)

Restore your iTunes backup on a Mac

  1. Copy the Backup to Your Mac

    • Insert the USB stick into your Mac.
    • Open Finder and locate the "iTunes Backup" folder on the USB drive.
    • Copy it to the default backup location:
    /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

Backup folder missing? Connect any iPhone to your Mac and start a backup using Finder or iTunes. This automatically creates the Backup folder.

  2. Connect Your New iPhone

    • Use a USB cable to connect your new iPhone to your Mac
    • Open Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (macOS Mojave or earlier)
    • Select your iPhone from the Locations section in the Finder sidebar
  3. Restore the Backup

    • Click Restore Backup
    • Select the backup you copied - confirm by checking the date and time
    • Click Restore and wait for the process to complete
    • Your iPhone will restart - follow on-screen instructions to finish setup
Android

Restore with Samsung Smart Switch

  1. Copy the Smart Switch Backup

Insert the USB stick into your computer. Locate the "SmartSwitch Backup" folder and copy it to an easily accessible location like your desktop.

  2. Install Smart Switch on Your Computer

Download and install Samsung Smart Switch:

    • Download for Windows
    • Download for macOS
  3. Connect & Restore

    • Open Smart Switch and connect your new Android phone via USB cable
    • Ensure your phone is unlocked and set to File Transfer mode if prompted
    • Select Restore in Smart Switch
    • Click "Select a different backup" and navigate to the SmartSwitch Backup folder
    • Choose the backup file and follow the on-screen instructions
    • Wait for the restoration to complete - your phone will restart

Good news: Smart Switch merges the backup data with your existing data. Nothing on your new phone will be deleted.
